What to expect at an open-water swim at Area 8 is like?

Provided by Sasha, Conservation Halton Lifeguard

Conservation Halton’s open-water swim is a great way to get experience swimming in an open-water setting. Whether you’re a triathlete, part of a swim team, or just looking for a way to gain experience swimming in open water, the open-water swim is a great way to improve your skills and experience. The open-water swim is always supervised by four lifeguards, there are two lifeguards on a motorized boat, one on a paddle board and one at the dock, all there to make sure that every swimmer is safe.

Before every open-water session, our lifeguards set up three buoys in a triangular fashion so that the open water swimmers have a proper course to follow. We ask that every open-water swimmer has a personal swim buoy so that they are easily visible for the lifeguards to see, as well as if a swimmer is to tired or in need of assistance, then they can hold onto their personal swim buoy to help them rest or help them get the attention of a nearby lifeguard.

If you’re looking for a fun way to gain experience swimming in a different setting, come to our open-water swim, we look forward to seeing you there.

Guided Trail Run

Our trail run coaches are excited to get you off the pavement and into the trail systems. These runs take place at several of our parks to give you courses that vary in terrain, elevation, and distance. You will be supported by your trail coach and group around you to push your running skills to a new level.

Provided by Eric D’Arcy, NCCP Triathalon Coach

I have been a long-time runner/triathlete who discovered trail running over 10 years ago and have never looked back. I have run a variety of distances and love introducing people to the joys of trail running. I have been an endurance coach for over 15 years, the race director for 5 Peaks Trail Running Series and Crazy Cat Adventures, as well as a lover of both animals and snacks.

This is open to all levels of trail runners – from just starting out to experienced – this is a no-drop, social-paced run and we aim to accommodate all those attending. We will have someone leading the run and when possible, someone bringing up the rear, so that we all stay together. Distances will vary from 5-8 km. Trail shoes are recommended but not mandatory.
