As part of the Niagara Escarpment Park System, Conservation Halton has been working to update the Master Plans, so that we can continue to provide recreation and education experiences for the growing communities, while ensuring that these sensitive natural areas are protected.
The Master Plans function as the principle guiding document for planning, development and resource management of these Conservation Areas, as owned and administered by Conservation Halton. The current update of the Master Plans was initiated following a 2007 report from Conservation Halton that proposed a vision to create “a sustainable network of world class conservation parks for ecological health and to provide public green space for quality education and recreation.” The Master Plans were developed in a three-phase process to meet the legislative requirements of the Niagara Escarpment Plan and the Conservation Authorities Act, and included extensive consultation with the public, stakeholders and related agencies. Review and approval for the Master Plans is provided by the Conservation Halton Board of Directors, the Niagara Escarpment Commission and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
