Conservation Halton is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting new volunteer program, the Conservation Halton Trail Association (CHTA).
This exciting new volunteer program will assist the Conservation Operations team with the ongoing management, maintenance, planning and construction of current and future trails across all of Conservation Halton’s parks and properties.
Conservation Halton is seeking passionate individuals that are experienced, dedicated, and want to play a role in positioning CH and our trails as one of (if not THE) premier trail destination within Ontario.
If selected, participants will be able to sign up for various opportunities which are shared via an Online Volunteer Portal by Conservation Halton staff. Opportunities will run on various schedules including weekends and evenings.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Participation in trail workdays and build opportunities. Examples include: the construction of the connecting trails from Area 8 to Kelso, construction of new TTF Features on Kelso MTB trails, construction of detailed rock armouring and other infrastructure projects.
- Assistance with the planning and visioning of current and potential future trails, with a keen focus on CH’s ‘core’ user groups: Hikers, Mountain Bikers and Climbers
- Ongoing assistance in the maintenance and management of current CH trails, including assisting with corridor management, reclamation, vegetation management and trail closures.
- Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals such as Covid-19 PPE protocols
Your Qualifications
- A strong interest in trail recreation, trail related planning and work.
- Active user of at least one of CH’s “core” user groups: Hiking, Biking and Climbing will be considered a strong asset
- Experience using typical trail building hand tools: Pulaskis, McLeods, Shovels, Rakes etc.
- Previous trail building, design and planning experience will be considered a strong asset

Reporting to the Foundation Executive Director, the Development Officer will:
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporate, foundation and individual major gift donors
- Help develop new and grow signature fundraising events
- Support annual and long-term fundraising campaigns and events

- Support prospect research and identification
- Support grant proposal writing and material development
- At times the position may be required to organize volunteers serving on Board sub-committees and event committees
Your Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience in the charitable, non-profit sector
- Post secondary education in Fundraising, Business Administration, Events Management and/or equivalent
- Experience in relationship management and donor stewardship practices, including donor communications and fundraising systems and techniques
- Knowledge of event fundraising and sponsorship as well as experience with annual fundraising campaigns
- Familiarity with donor database/relationship management systems – e.g., Raiser’s Edge
- Experience in proposal and grant writing and reporting
- Experience working with volunteers
- Willingness to occasionally work outside of regular business hours is required
- Proficient with MS Office platform and ability to manage and coordinate virtual meetings (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving and solid judgment when making decisions and determining escalation of problems
- Strong time-management and organizational skills with the ability to pivot when needed to adjust to changing priorities
- Well-developed communication skills and creativity, combined with the ability to be a collaborative team player

- Support the Senior Advisor with general administrative duties where required. Vos qualifications

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary/matrix team, this role is part of the project management office and will be responsible for delivering significant ecological restoration projects within Conservation Halton’s watershed. With direction from senior project management staff, this will involve the planning of restoration projects to enhance aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems
- Provide support and leadership to advance major ecosystem restoration projects with a focus on aquatic, terrestrial, wetland and species at risk projects
- Develop work plans for restoration projects which clearly outline the scope of work, roles, responsibilities of team members, budgets and milestones
- Write and review technical specification for the procurement of goods and services process (RFQ, RFP, RFT) for ecological restoration projects
- Oversee project financial reporting, expenses, revenue, forecasts and budgets
- Contract administrator oversight of restoration contractors and coordination of detailed design consultants
- Provide technical oversight and direction and participate as part of a wider team to ensure that project deliverables are met, on time, on budget, and delivering positive outcomes
- Recommend, design, and implement ecological restoration and management projects related to improvement of watershed health, flood and erosion reduction and mitigation, nature heritage systems, biodiversity, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and species at risk
- Ensure agreements with multiple parties are adhered to
- Engage stakeholders, provide regular reports of a technical nature, and work with the marketing and communications team to develop promotional and media-based materials to communicate notable milestones and success
Vos qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Studies/Science, Geography, Ecology, Landscape Architecture, Engineering or related
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience particularly related to ecological restoration
- Exposure to working with contractors and consultants, coordinating multiple contracts
- Certification in or eligibility to become Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP – Society of Ecological Restoration), and/or a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) licensed in the Province of Ontario an asset
