Preparing for Your Interview

Every business runs recruitment processes differently. This page offers some guidance once you reach the interview stage with Conservation Halton.

What to Expect:

If you have an interview for a position at Conservation Halton, you can expect:

  • All applications are considered on their own merit.
  • When applying for certain positons, you may be asked to complete a short quiz, assignment, or bring in samples of your work on the qualifications we are looking for. You will receive this information request in a confirmation email.
  • All candidates are asked the same questions to ensure consistency and fairness.
  • Your responses will be used to assist us in identifying the best candidate for the position.
  • We understand how important interviews are and we will do our best to ensure you are comfortable and the process is welcoming for you.

The Interview:

Interviews can be a stressful situation. Please take time to prepare and we will ensure the process is professional, welcoming and informative. The following provides some tips and a summary of what you can expect:

  • If you are contacted for an interview you will be given a date, time and location. An email will be sent to you confirming these details, along with directions. We suggest that you are familiar with our location (please note that GPS systems do not always find our correct location) and please arrive 5-10 minutes early so that you are fully prepared.
  • For the employer, the purpose of an interview is to explore your skill sets and experience, and determine if you are the right fit for the Conservation Halton team.
  • For the candidate, the purpose of the interview is to determine whether Conservation Halton is the right fit for you.
  • You can expect two to three interviewers to be part of the initial interview. There will be one person from Human Resources, as well as one or two people from the hiring department.
  • Different types of questions will be asked, including behavioural, situational, and informational.
    • Behavioural based interview questions are based on the assumption that the best predictor of future behaviour is past behavior in a similar situation.
    • Situational questions show how you analyse a situation.
    • Informational questions measure your education, experience, and assess your skills, abilities and aptitudes.
  • The interview questions are structured so that we will ask you for relevant examples. For example: Tell us about a time when you demonstrated exceptional customer service skills? Tell us about the most difficult project you have led?
  • To prepare for your interview, take a look at the position you applied for and find examples in your past that demonstrate your abilities to be a success in the position.


After the interview is completed, you may be asked to provide references.
