COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

The Halton Children's Water Festival requires hundreds of community volunteers to run successfully each year. Volunteers roles include:

  • Activity Presenters
  • Area Leads
  • Area Lead Assistants
  • Busing Support/Safety Patrol/Lunch Assistants
  • Set-up & Tear down

The festival is committed to creating a safe, equitable and inclusive environment for all. Volunteers, staff, vendors and school representatives are required to comply with the Halton Children's Water Festival Code of Conduct. View and download the Code of Conduct here.

VOLUNTEER FAQ

What should I bring to the festival?- A refillable water bottle (water refill stations available on-site)
- Sunscreen and insect repellent

Note:
Pizza is provided for lunch. Please bring additional snacks and beverages in reusable containers when possible. Food and drink are not available for purchase on-site. 

What should I wear?Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe footwear. The festival runs rain or shine—please dress for the forecasted weather.

What does a typical day at the festival look like?8 a.m. - Corporate and community volunteers arrive for the daily orientation session

9:30 am - High school students arrive

10 a.m. - Elementary students start to arrive

10:30 a.m. - Morning activity rotations begin

11:30 a.m. - Lunch

Noon - Afternoon activity rotations begin

1:30 p.m. - Activities conclude, elementary students depart and volunteers close their stations

2 p.m. - High school students depart

2:30 p.m. - Corporate and community volunteers depart once the festival is closed for the day

Can I bring my own props and activity material?Each activity station includes all necessary props to HCWF programs. While we do not recommend bringing personal props or materials for festival activities, please contact us with any suggestions.

Does the festival ever get cancelled?As an outdoor event, the Halton Children’s Water Festival runs rain or shine. The festival may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather, serious incident or other potential hazards. Festival staff regularly monitor weather forecasts and will notify all organizers, vendors, teachers and volunteers of cancellation by 6:00 a.m. on any given festival date.

Where is the Halton Children's Water Festival located?The festival is located at Kelso Conservation Area, 5234 Kelso Road in Milton, Ontario.
