Hawk Walk

Experience having a free flying hawk fly and land next to you! During this private 45 minute program, you will join our Raptor Centre staff and one of our trained Harris’s Hawks for a walk through a picturesque field setting. The program involves the hawk flying along behind you and near you, and landing on a perch in your hand. At the end of the walk the hawk will perch next to you for photo opportunities.

Hawk Walks are weather dependent. We reserve the right to cancel a Hawk Walk 24 hours in advance of the program in the case of inclement weather. If your Hawk Walk is cancelled, you will have the option to reschedule (if space is available) or receive a refund.

For the comfort of the hawk, and the experience of the participants, extra guests cannot be accommodated in the Hawk Walk program. The maximum number of participants allowed is 2 people.

Unfortunately, our staff’s attention will be on ensuring your group has an unforgettable, educational, and safe experience– they will be unable to take photos for you. However, you are encouraged to bring your own camera and take photos yourself. Our staff will provide you with opportunities to take photos of the hawk on your hand-held perch, but the safety of our guests and our birds is our primary consideration.

We encourage our Hawk Walk guests to take pictures; however, photography is not the focus of the experience. Our photoshoot program has been designed to meet the needs of budding and experienced photographers looking for opportunities to photograph our magnificent raptors!

Yes! The Hawk Walk program involves having a hawk landing on a perch in your hand.

No. At this time, only our resident Harris’s Hawks are available for the Hawk Walk program.

Birds of prey are carnivores. As a reward for flying to perches, the hawk will be given tidbits of raw meat in the form of rat, mouse, chicken, or quail. Raptor Centre staff will be the ones handling the meat but you will witness a raptor eating raw meat.

Conservation Halton is committed to making our parks and programs accessible for all, however this program does involve walking over uneven terrain in a field setting. Please inform our staff in advance if any member of your party has environmental allergies, special or exceptional needs, accessibility concerns, applicable phobias (birds, sudden movements), or sensitivities. We are happy to discuss the program with you in advance of booking. For safety reasons, Service Animals are not permitted in Hawk Walk programs. Please Note: This program involves proximity to a live, free flying hawk. Although you are not in any danger from our birds, they are still capable of independent movement, noise, and activity—please ensure all members of your party are able to stay calm around animals before you book your Hawk Walk.
