Event Series Event Series: NishDish Pop-up

NishDish Pop-up

Conservation Halton is excited to announce that NishDish will once again be opening a pop-up location at Crawford Lake Conservation Area. Friday through Sunday from May 13, 2022 until Thanksgiving weekend, 2022, visitors to Crawford Lake will be able to enjoy the beauty of the forest, rare meromictic lake, and reconstructed longhouse village, followed up with a delicious Indigenous meal. From bison sausage to wild rice to strawberry juice guests will be able to enjoy foods that respect the land and nourish the body.

Owned and operated by Chef Johl Whiteduck Ringuette, NishDish Marketeria and Catering spent three years at its Bloor Street location celebrating Anishinaabe cuisine and foodways and promoting Indigenous food sovereignty through catering since 2015. NishDish, which attracted over 800 people to its 2017 grand opening, focuses on healthy, locally sourced, traditional ingredients that honour the land. Sadly, like many restaurants, NishDish, was forced to close its Toronto location in 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19.

While the location has changed, NishDish’s delicious cuisine and message remain the same. “The deepest sense of the journey of Indigenous food sovereignty is the revitalisation of all our relationships to the land, water, and animals which is the shared responsibility of all community members to help nurture and sustain the earth on which we depend,” said chef Johl.

NishDish will be open 11am to 6pm Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting). Please join us for this remarkable opportunity to enjoy Indigenous cuisine in the heart of the Niagara Escarpment!
