Local family-owned business, Chudleigh’s Apple Farm, has pledged a generous $250,000 to support the construction of a multi-purpose auditorium and education space within the planned new visitor centre at Crawford Lake Conservation Area in Milton.

Crawford Lake boasts an extraordinary park centred around an internationally renowned, rare meromictic lake. Findings of corn pollen in its undisturbed sediment layers dating from the 13th to 15th centuries led to the discovery of the archaeological footprints of a Wendat or Attawandaron village which is now represented in the site’s three reconstructed longhouses. Along with these educational treasures, the park offers a winding boardwalk and diverse trails for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Big changes are on the horizon at Crawford Lake in 2025, with plans to kick off a major renovation, including upgrades to the boardwalk and visitor centre. The re-envisioned visitor centre will enhance the guest experience and increase programming capacity. With support from Chudleigh’s Apple Farm, the facility will also have a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose auditorium. The new auditorium will provide a hub for our education programs and a space where visitors of all ages can connect, learn, and celebrate nature. Scott Chudleigh, Co-President of Chudleigh’s, expressed his excitement about this project: “We are thrilled to support the Conservation Halton Foundation. As a family-focused business, we understand the importance of creating spaces where families can come together to learn and appreciate the natural world.”

Chudleigh’s significant contribution is a testament to the power of community partnerships in advancing conservation efforts. Garner Beckett, Executive Director of the Conservation Halton Foundation, emphasized the importance of this local support, adding: “This partnership with Chudleigh’s is a shining example of how local businesses can play a crucial role in conservation. Their generous pledge brings us one step closer to realizing our vision for Crawford Lake and underscores the vital connection between our community and the natural environment.”

As a result of this recent donation, the Connected Campaign has reached an important milestone—over $16 million has been raised to protect and enhance our essential green spaces and ensure we can serve our growing communities today and in the future.
