BURLINGTON, ON – Conservation Halton is pleased to be recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2025 by Canada’s Top 100 Employers. This annual competition recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.
“Sustainability is more than a goal for us,” says Chandra Sharma, President and CEO of Conservation Halton. “It’s part of everything we do. From restoring local ecosystems to reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the well-being of our staff and community, we’re dedicated to building a greener future for everyone.”
Employers were evaluated by the environmental initiatives and programs developed; the extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization’s own environmental footprint; the degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and the extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity, attracting new employees and clients to the organization.
This recognition highlights Conservation Halton’s efforts to embed environmental sustainability into every aspect of its operations. For over 60 years, more than four million trees have been planted in our watershed. Over 110 restoration projects were completed in 2024, contributing to the rehabilitation of over four kilometres of streams and enhancing local ecosystems with the planting of 66,337 native trees and shrubs.
Conservation Halton continues to reduce its carbon footprint by upgrading facilities with green features. This includes the installation of LED lighting (95% of our Administrative Office has been upgraded to energy-efficient LED lighting), the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, and low-impact development initiatives such as permeable pavement and native plant landscaping.
Conservation Halton is equally committed to people. Through the Parks Pass It On program, residents can borrow free park passes from local libraries, making nature more accessible. The newly launched PaRx: A Prescription to Nature program in partnership with the BC Parks Foundation and Halton Healthcare offers 10 free Conservation Halton Parks visits to guests who receive a PaRx nature prescription from their health care provider. This collaboration helps empower residents to reap the health benefits of spending time in nature. Employees reflect sustainability in Conservation Halton’s culture by joining staff-led eco-challenges and tree plantings. Full-time, contract and seasonal employees enjoy benefits that support mental and physical wellness, including a free Conservation Halton Parks membership, wellness events, and access to mindfulness tools.
This employer recognition is the second received in 2025, following recognition as a Hamilton-Niagara Top Employer by Canada’s Top 100 Employers. To learn more about Conservation Halton, see all available positions and apply to join the team, visit conservationhalton.ca/about-us/employment.
