Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Connect people with First Nations heritage and local ecology by creating warm and welcoming experiences for park guests of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds
  • Deliver informative and entertaining educational programs for organized groups and the public both in person and in a virtual environment
  • Assist with the development and implementation of innovative new programs to meet the changing needs of the community
  • Assist with updating and creating new interpretative props, gardens, displays, and signage
  • Maintain program equipment & supplies, existing and seasonal interpretative displays, signage, and brochures
  • Perform related duties in other Conservation Halton parks or at community-based venues, as required
  • Perform light cleaning duties

Your Qualifications

  • Cultural/lived experience as an Indigenous person
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture(s), particularly Wendat or Haudenosaunee cultures, and Traditional Ecological Knowledge or local ecology
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience in resource interpretation, teaching, or outdoor education
  • Proven commitment to providing superior customer service
  • French or Indigenous second language an asset
  • Knowledge of archaeology an asset

Your Opportunity 

The primary responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Lead groups of campers while exploring CH Parks, trails, and activities, creating fun and adventure in a safe and supportive environment.  
  • Ensure that campers are active, engaged, having fun, and learning something new! 
  • Provide campers with an unforgettable experience, fostering friendships, and creating lifelong memories.  
  • Ensure a safe environment, promoting best practices for the well-being of campers and other staff members 
  • Provide ongoing feedback, verbal and written, to parents concerning their child’s camp experience. 
  • Provide leadership & education at facilities (or during activities) which require specialized knowledge or training. (Biking, Climbing, etc.) 
    • Includes supervision of campers in and around the waterfront (with support of Waterfront Lifeguard team) 
  • Bus Monitor duties to provide supervision of campers on bus routes to and from camp, and between CH sites. *We ask that all WOW Counsellors commit to a minimum of 1 week of Bus Monitor Duties. Additional weeks may available upon request 
  • Cleaning/Sanitization of supplies and equipment  
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals

Your Qualifications 

  • Must be 16 years of age or older at the time of employment 
  • Strong creativity, leadership, communication, and collaboration skills required for mentorship of other staff and campers; along with the ability to reinforce rules/policies when needed 
  • Previous experience working in a summer camp setting or as a Counsellor in Training (C.I.T) is considered an asset 
  • Post-secondary education, specialized training, or certification in activities or facilities relating to Recreation program activities is considered an asset: 
    • Wilderness First Responder 
    • PMBI – Mountain Bike Instructor L1, 2, or 3 
    • ACCT Accredited Level 1, 2, or 3 Challenge Course Cert. 
    • Paddle Canada certifications (canoe / kayak) 
    • Previous experience working with, educating or supervising children 
  • Prior experience or skill with any of the following activities is considered an asset: 
    • Archery, Biking, Boating, Teambuilding / Challenge Course use, Outdoor Education (i.e., survival skills), Work or experience with Birds of Prey (Raptor Camp)

  • Support the coordination of staff, activities, and supplies as required by the weekly schedule  
  • Serve as an on-site resource for summer camp staff, including preparation for activities, clean up, sanitization/disinfection of camp facilities and equipment, first aid, group coverage, camper discipline, or responding to parent questions, comments, and concerns  
  • Ensure that camp staff meet the standards and expectations set by CH, and the Program Content for WOW Camps. Campers should be active, engaged, having fun, and learning something new! 
  • Assist with the long-term improvement and development of CH summer camps by working with the Coordinator, Recreation Programs on program development, staff training, etc.

Your Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a counselor with Ways of the Woods camps, or proven equivalency with other recreation programs

  • Provide safe and enjoyable visitor experiences on Kelso’s Challenge Course (Archery Range, Aerial Ropes Course and Climbing Tower) through proper course operation and maintenance, as well as creative and fun facilitation 
  • Deliver program and experience content to guests using the Challenge Course facility; including but not limited to Summer Camps, Day Use Visitors, Corporate and School Groups, Special Events Groups, Birthday parties etc.

Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator, Facilities & Maintenance, the Facilities & Maintenance Operator will be responsible for maintenance duties contributing to overall presentation and cleanliness of Conservation Halton parks.

  • Perform maintenance and safety checks of infrastructure including buildings, pathways/roads/parking lots, visitor facilities, lighting, grounds, and signage
  • Identify building/infrastructure issues and communicate to supervisor in a timely manner; troubleshoot problems with drinking water systems, HVAC, plumbing and minor electrical, with a high priority on guest and staff experience
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of facility improvement projects
  • Support with setup, take down, and maintenance required for programming, experiences, and seasonal activities taking place across CH parks
  • Support with maintaining inventory of required supplies, and safekeeping of all maintenance equipment, tools, materials, and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of small drinking water systems throughout the parks, completing daily records, and water samples when applicable
  • Support the Coordinator, F&M with recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff and volunteers
  • Support with departmental workplans and budget forecasting for seasonal staff
  • Acting Day Manager of all CH parks required on rotation
  • Operation of snowplows and sanding equipment during the snow season including weekends.
  • Perform duties and ensure assigned staff and volunteers work in accordance with Conservation Halton’s Safety Policy and Procedures and in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations

Your Qualifications

  • Hands on experience in two or more of the following: Plumbing, Rough and Finish Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC systems
  • Licence and/or certification in related trade(s) or 2 years experience in an infrastructure maintenance related profession and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience operating small and/or heavy equipment: Tractor, skid steer, plow/sanding equipment, scissor/boom lift, various mowers.
  • Ability to operate standard construction tools such as saws, planners, nailers, etc.
  • Minimum secondary school education/diploma required
  • Ability to work in a variety of outdoor conditions and adapt to the daily challenges associated with day-to-day operations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to provide effective communication to staff, contractors, and guests

The Forestry Departments provides support and services to both private landowners within the CH watershed and internal client base of Conservation Halton. The Forestry Field Labourer, will be involved in tree planting and maintenance, invasive species, and forest management projects.

 

Reporting to the Coordinator, Forestry, the Field Labourer will assist with:

  • The implementation of tree planting – planting, survival assessments, outreach, data entry, site preparation and tending
  • Seed Collection
  • Forest management – inventory data collection, tree marking, forest pest/disease surveys, property boundary marking
  • Invasive species management – inventorying, mapping, and pesticide spraying
  • Arboricultural management – brush chipping, caliper tree pruning, forest inventories for construction projects
  • Work in accordance with Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your Qualifications

  • Previous work experience in a related field
  • Working towards a university degree or college diploma in forestry forest management or arboriculture
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral
  • Efficient problem solving, multi-tasking and creative thinking skills
  • Knowledge of local ecosystems
  • Native Ontario tree, shrub, and plant identification
  • Experience driving a 4×4 vehicle and towing a trailer is an asset

  • Must be between 16 and 30 years of age upon commencement of employment
  • Reliable transport to and from the office is necessary (site not serviced by public transportation)
