Adventure Camp

Ages 12-14

Adventure Camp has everything that our parks have to offer packed into an action packed week that is themed for our oldest campers. Campers build leadership and teamwork skills as they explore Kelso, Mountsberg, Crawford Lake, and Mount Nemo. Climb, cave, bike, hike, boat, you name it, campers will do it!

Girls Camp

Ages 8-14

No boys allowed! Made for girls and led by girls, this camp is a great way to learn about the outdoors and develop new skills. Campers will experience all of the best that Kelso, Mountsberg, Crawford Lake, and Mount Nemo have to offer, and they’ll have loads of fun along the way!

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

Raptor Camp

Ages 8–14

Raptor Camp allows campers the chance to work alongside our Raptor Centre staff getting up close and personal with all of the amazing birds. Young raptor enthusiasts have the opportunity to play, explore and take part in games and activities to learn about the amazing adaptations of these top predators.

  • Campers will be based primarily at Mountsberg for their week at camp but will arrive and depart from Kelso with all of the other campers.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?
NEW for this year: there will be three alternating themes for Raptor Camp - Raptor Care, Amazing Adaptations and The Art of Raptors.
Raptor Care

Have you ever wondered what it takes to care for over a dozen different kinds of raptors? Join Raptor Centre staff to learn all about feeding, cleaning, training and health care. Campers will get hands on helping the staff with tasks such as cleaning cages and making enrichment for the birds and will observe feeding and daily care of our flock. 

Offered weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9

Amazing Adaptations

Hawks, eagles, falcons, vultures, and owls - they are all raptors but they are all unique! Learn about how vultures can eat meat that would make other raptors sick and how owls can hear a mouse under a metre of snow! Through games and activities, campers will learn about the amazing adaptations of these top predators.

The Art of Raptors – New for 2017

Raptors have captured human imagination for centuries and frequently appear in art and stories, as well as in movies and on TV.  Campers will immerse themselves in movies and books featuring birds of prey and will take part in activities and bird encounters featured around the themes found in them. Campers will also get the chance to unleash their inner artist through photographing, drawing and sculpting various birds.

Farm Camp

Ages 8-14

Campers will get their hands dirty and learn what it takes to keep a small farm in operation. They will learn how to care for crops, and animals. They will get up close with the operations of a real hobby farm. Come nurture those green thumbs and grow with us.

Construction Camp

Ages 10-14

Does your camper want to learn how to plan, design, and build projects? They’ll be guided by one of our expert Conservation Halton construction crew members as they learn basic carpentry and construction skills. Complete with a project and plans to take home at the end of the week.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

Waterfront Camp

Ages 10–13

Become more confident around water. WOW’s Waterfront Camp focuses on water and boating safety. We teach canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding skills; as well as content covered in the Lifesaving Society’s Swim to Survive program. Excellent preparation for future Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, or NLS certification!

Campers will require a properly fitted, certified PFD for this camp. All other equipment will be supplied. Waterfront camp operates exclusively at Kelso to take best advantage of their time on and around the water.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

 Jr. Lifeguard Camp 

Ages 10–14

Jr. Lifeguard Camp is the first step toward joining our Waterfront Lifeguard team. Participate in a fun week of camp spent swimming, boating, and working on lifesaving skills; all while working towards your Bronze Medallion certification*. Campers must be 13 years of age, or have completed a recognized Bronze Star certification course.

* Based on successfully meeting minimum course standards.

Need your Bronze Star for camp? Look for details shortly to find course dates for Bronze Star courses offered prior to camp starting! Jr. Guard camp operates exclusively at Kelso to take best advantage of their time in and around the water.

Please note: The Bronze Medallion program requires 18 - 20 hours of specific training and testing so while these campers will experience many of the other fun camp activities (and the training itself can be fun) a large portion of the week is focused on this Life Saving Society certification and testing.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

 Sr. Lifeguard Camp

Ages 12–15

Sr. Lifeguard Camp takes your swimming and camp will have campers feeling right at home in and around the water. Spend each day boating, swimming, and exploring the park at Kelso. Over the course of two weeks, campers will earn their Bronze Cross certification* from the Life Saving Society while working alongside the Kelso Lifeguard team.

* Based on successfully meeting minimum course standards.

Campers who complete the Sr. Lifeguard Camp will be eligible to apply for a position working with our Lifeguard Team. Campers will receive details at the completion of their camp. Sr. Guard camp operates exclusively at Kelso to take best advantage of their time in and around the water.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

Bike Camps

Bike Camps offer an action packed week on the trail networks at Kelso; and visits to Hilton Falls for our more advanced groups. All riders should have bikes with minimum 24′′ wheels and two functioning brakes. Proper fitting helmets are required. We also suggest gloves and a hydration pack. Additional body armour is optional but not required. Parents may drop their child’s bike off at Kelso on the first morning of camp, or on the Friday afternoon the week prior to camp.

What does my camper need to bring to camp?

Bike Camp

Ages 8–15

Our wildly popular Bike Camp is the perfect way to learn or hone campers’ mountain bike skills. Led by our certified instructors who will guide campers to improve their biking in ways they never thought were possible!

Bike Camp Trail Builders

Ages 10–15

An awesome camp for our most advanced and passionate bikers! Spend a week at Kelso and learn what goes into building and maintaining trail networks and features. Campers will spend time designing, laying out, and cutting new trail segments, installing new features... and of course riding them a little too! This camp will focus on trail development more than riding. For a blend of both, consider attending a week of Advanced Bike Camp prior to Trail Builders Camp!

Need a Bike Rental?

Ways of the Woods is proud to have Devinci Bikes as a partner, and offers a fleet of rental bikes. Bikes are available in a variety of sizes and are fitted upon arrival. Rental bikes may be added to any Bike Camp for a full week, or daily as required. 

Counsellor In Training Camp (C.I.T.)

Ages 14–15

Welcome to the big leagues! Counsellor In Training (C.I.T.) Camp is designed to help teens who love camp to learn what it takes to lead camp! C.I.T. Camp is offered to campers who are interested in working as a C.I.T. at camp THIS summer. During the week, campers will take part in our most popular activities, and join our younger campers to see what it takes to be a leader.

Campers who have completed C.I.T. Camp with a positive review from their camp staff will be welcomed to come back for any number of complete camp weeks through the remainder of the summer. Their volunteer position within the camps will serve as a great first step towards becoming camp staff. C.I.T camps will experience all of the best that KelsoMountsbergCrawford Lake, and Mount Nemo have to offer throughout their week at camp.
