Burlington BlueCreeks gets a $15,000 boost (June 2011)

As part of their commitment to Hamilton and the surrounding community, we’re pleased to receive $15,000 from ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Conservation Halton Foundation, and our project partners – Conservation Halton, the Bay Area Restoration Council, the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Hamilton-Halton Watershed Stewardship Program will use these funds to improve the health of our local creeks and streams. The Burlington BlueCreeks Project is a community-based stewardship program designed to enhance the health of our local waterways. Our goal is to complete three projects in 2011 that will help clean up our creeks, bring the fish back to our streams and create new habitat for waterfowl.

Oaks will grow again in Glenorchy

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Oakville Community Foundation, Conservation Halton foresters, biologists and volunteers are helping to regenerate 5 acres of forests in Oakville’s newest natural area – Glenorchy Conservation Area. Established in 2008 and coveing 989 acres in the highly urbanizing North Oakville area, these lands were a blend of agricultural and forest cover. Conservation Halton Foundation is raising funds to restore native forests, wetland and grasslands to this newest urban conservation area over the next 10 years. Our thanks to our generous donors – Oakville Community Foundation, Trees Ontario, Glenwood Tree Service and Conservation Halton – and to our volunteer planters from Field and Stream Rescue Team, Oakville Green, the Conservation Halton Ecology department and more.
