Let the games begin!

Posted by on

This summer is all about the games! As the GTA welcomes some of the best athletes in the world, we welcome park visitors to join in the spirit of the games through Crawford Lake’s Games of Kanata summer program from July 5 until Labour Day weekend. In this celebration of Aboriginal sport and athletes visitors experience a melding of athleticism and art.

From archery to lacrosse to hand games the program presents many hands on opportunities for learning about the fun and challenging sports that have been played across North America for thousands of years.

The Running with the Deer exhibit, hosted in the Deer Clan longhouse, features the art and poetry of local Anishinabe artist Rene Meshake. Through this exhibit we hope to honour the healing power of sport, the healthy nature of traditional foods, and in particular the resilience of Aboriginal athletes and people. The Running with the Deer exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

In addition to the Deer Clan exhibit, a Healthy Gardens Tour will be offered every day at 11 a.m., an Introduction to Archery at 2 p.m. (please note Intro to Archery is not offered on Tuesdays), and Longhouse Lore at 1 and 3 p.m.

Don’t let the inspiration of the games fade as the medals are presented; join us to test your own athleticism, learn about healthy eating, and to celebrate Canada’s inspiring Aboriginal athletes.
